How do I bid online?

There are several ways to find auction items to bid on.

1. You can visit our AUCTIONS page to view upcoming auctions. Clicking the “Details” button on an event will bring up details and a list of auction items that are currently available for bidding.

2. Our website also has a search bar and categories drop-down feature. These are available at the top of every page. In this search bar, you can use various keywords to find all lots that contain the given keyword. For example, typing in “Jeep” will bring up “Jeep Grand Cherokee”, “Jeep Compass”, “Jeep Wrangler” if there are any currently available for bidding.
Selecting an option in the “Categories” drop-down menu will list all items currently available within a given category. This can be combined with the search function to help narrow down your search results.
Once you have found an item you want to bid on, click the “Details” button. This will allow you to view the bid page for that specific item. There you will see pictures, descriptions, and current bidding options for the item. Please read all information carefully before  bidding.

3. On our Quick Find page you will find links to the favourites that most people look for.

What is the buyer’s premium?

Buyer’s Premium is a standard fee that is charged on each and every lot by all auction companies. It is an additional fee (percentage) on the hammer price of the lot that must be paid by the successful bidder. It is charged by the auctioneer to cover administrative expenses and it goes directly to the Auction house. Please note that the fees are charged over and above the bid price that are listed on each lot. Please note that all of Karla’s Auction items are subject to a 10% buyers fee to a maximum fee of $500.00. Please account for this when determining your maximum bidding budget. Below are two examples of how buyer’s premium works:

Example 1: Ralph is the winning bidder on an armoire on which he bid $100.00. His Buyer’s Premium is calculated at 10% (10% x $100 = $10.00) and therefore Ralph would pay $110.00 for the item, plus any other applicable charges (such as GST and/or PST).

Example 2: Ralph won a truck for $6,700.00 The Buyer’s Premium is 10% which calculates at $670.00 (10% x $6,700 = $670.00). However, the Buyer’s Premium is capped at $500.00 maximum per item or lot so Ralph would only pay $500.00 for the Buyer’s Premium and not $670.00. (Applicable taxes of will be added to this figure.)

What is the bidding limit I can spend?

There is no limit on what you want to spend on bidding on an item but please be mindful of your budget and other financial responsibilities.

Can I retract a bid?

Bids cannot be retracted once they are placed. A bid is a legal binding contract to purchase if the bid is the highest. However, you can place a maximum bid on an item and if the current bid is less than the maximum you have set, you will pay the less than maximum bid price.  Once you have been outbid on an item you are no longer obligated to purchase the item.

What is A Maximum Bid?

A maximum bid is known as a max bid. It is an automated process that allows the computer to bid on your behalf in your absence. The auctioneer can also placed bids for the seller by proxy. Once a maximum bid has been entered, it cannot be changed by neither the bidder nor auctioneer.

How do I place a Maximum Bid?

For example, you are interested in an item but don’t want to pay more than $10.00 The current bid for the item is $2.00. You will then enter your maximum bid of $10.00 in the bid box. The system will automatically place your current bid at $3.00 (i.e., raising the current bid of $2.00 by the minimum increment of $1.00). If someone else then bids $4.00, this automatic process will continue until the bid reaches $10.00. When it reaches $10.00, your max bid, you can choose to raise the bid. If another bidder places a bid higher than your max bid, they will become the current high bidder and the max bid system will no longer automatically place bids on your behalf. At this point you can place another bid or cease bidding on the item. If no one challenges your bid of $3.00 before the end of the auction, you will pay $3.00, and not the full $10.00.  If you place a new max bid, be sure to click the Place Bid button to confirm it.

What is a Reserve Price?

reserve price is the minimum amount that the owner of an auction item will accept as the winning bid will accept.

What is meant by Unreserve?

Unreserve is the opposite of reserved pricing whereby an item will sell at the final bid regardless of the bid price. The same applies for items listed as Reserve Lifted.

What is meant by Reserve Not Met?

A reserve is the minimum price that Karla’s Auction can automatically authorize the sale of an item. The reserve price is set by the seller/consignor. If the item does not reach the reserve price, the seller decides if they would like to accept the current bid price or negotiate with the bidder or relist the item or remove it altogether. Reserve prices are undisclosed so as to not influence the competitive bidding. We encourage users to bid what they consider the item to be worth.
Consignors can accept bid price higher than the reserve.

What if I’m the successful high bidder on a reserved item?

If you are the successful highest bidder on a reserved item, Karla’s Auction will contact you with information.

What is meant by Soft Close?

Soft Close is when the bidding is extended by 2 minutes from the last bid registered and will continue to do so as long as there is bidding taking place. The lot will close once there has been a 2-minute dormant period of no bidding. This method is used to prevent bidders from waiting to the last few seconds to place a bid and winning it from the current high bidder who may have wanted to continue the auction process. (This method resembles a traditional live auction whereby the auction continues until bidding has ceased.)

How do I determine an item’s condition?

We try to represent items as accurately as possible. All defects visible to the naked eye are usually pictured or be listed in the item description at the bottom of the bid page. We also take consignors word of honour that items are as described. However, we do not conduct full inspections. We strongly recommend manual inspection on viewing day, prior to bidding. If you are unsure about the state or quality of the item, you are not obligated to bid on the item.

When can I view items?

We encourage bidders to manually inspect items prior to bidding at our Preview showrooms in Yorkton or Springside, or at off-site locations as indicated in the auction details. Items at any of our preview locations can only be viewed during the prescribed viewing dates and hours. Items that are located offsite will have specific viewing times or contact information to arrange viewing and will be listed in the auction details page.

When can I pick up my items?

If you have won an item through the auction you will receive specific pickup instructions on your invoice of the date and time frame of pickup. Information is also posted on our Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as on the website.

Items located offsite will have a designated pickup time or contact information to arrange for pickup. Items must be picked up within the prescribed date and times. Items not picked up within this period may be forfeited as there won’t be staff at the locations after the pickup hours, and often the showroom is needed for another sale so storage is not possible.

Can I get my items shipped?

Shipping is an option for certain items, and when available, will be indicated on the auction details of that sale. Our shipping partner is Canada Post. Please check more on shipping here.

Why am I blocked from bidding?

There could be many reasons why you are blocked from bidding on the website. Some of these reasons could include:

1) You have outstanding invoices
2) Have repeatedly not picked up items after winning bids
3) Credit card on file has expired

If you feel your account has been blocked incorrectly, call our office at 306-620-6778 for assistance.

Next, you will be asked to input the answer to your security question.
