Both girls discovered a love for the business with its excitement and people-focus at young ages, and worked alongside their Dad until his passing. Karla furthered her passion with training from auction school and mentoring from her dad (they both attended the same auction college 30 years apart) and created her own company. Together they became the dynamic duo Ukrainetz Auction/Karla’s Auction House. Loved and trusted by the people of Saskatchewan and neighbouring provinces.

The loss of Doug was mourned by many but Karla sums it best in her own words. Below is the touching tribute she delivered. Not included in the script is the auctioneer’s mesmerising chant she belted and the yodelling, both executed flawlessly, even though she had not used the chant since going to full online auction.

Doug Ukrainetz’s legacy lives on in pictures, in memorabilia, and in the hearts of the people he loved and served.

My husband went to so many of Doug’s auctions, that Doug hired him! As for me, it was a few years after Barry started going to the Ukrainetz auctions that I actually met the Ukrainetz crew. Doug made me feel welcome from day 1. He would do anything to help a person without expecting anything in return. He was a great friend and “boss” and is truly missed by us.

The day Karla’s Auction/Ukrainetz Auctioneering opened their office and showroom at Springside, Doug handed us keys and we became the security team. As a retired couple, we were a bit bored, so when Doug asked if we would look out for the place, we fell into the fold and pretty soon we were helping out when needed. We met many nice people, and a few otherwise, and we became family adopted to the Ukrainetz’s. They were good to us.
We soon became awakened to the running of an auction house. Doug was an honest, hardworking man, and he knew practically every person that walked in. Doug was a respected leader and could be stern if needed, and the head of the party the next minute. He involved us a lot in the business and we enjoyed it very much. If we needed help Doug was at our door. Karla is a real sweetheart and we became the best of friends. Our birthdays were never forgotten, and we were invited to every celebration. There was never a harsh word between any of us and we are so thankful to have met them both.
